What have I been up to since Feb?

Hello All, I'm still alive. I haven't done a blog since February. Sorry about that.

So what have I been up to?

In March I found a new local jetty for creating long exposures with and the next day's Sunrise was a sight to see, well you can view it below.

I'm also shooting architectural images on my phone and posting them to Instagram which are captured around North Sydney.

In April we start to get a lot of rain and we had some localized flooding of the lake and I create a minimal long exposure of one of my favourite jetties which I've been capturing for a few years now.

I went to the local state recreation park and one of the last shelf clouds for the Australian east coast came roaring through.

Snapper Point Shelf CloudThese buggers are hard to capture in my opinion. I was in the Munmorah State Rec. Park on...

It's Milky Way season in the Southern Hemisphere in April and May. I live on the east coast of Australia and facing the Pacific Ocean I captured the Milky Way core rising.

Follow Me To The Galaxy

It's now May and I have created a new Study series called "Flood Study" based on recent floods of our lakes from what's known as an East Coast Low. I'll create a new post for that series very soon. So stay tuned.

I usually update my social media pages once or twice a week either at one of these below.

Focus Photography Awards

Focus award results.

It's just a tad over a year since I joined the Sydney Flickr group called Focus and my second year of entering the awards. (Don't forget to join if you're in Australia.)

This year I entered in 5 images to qualify for the Photographer of the Year in the Amateur section based on these categories

  • Panorama
  • Cityscape
  • Seascape
  • Landscape
  • Black & White

Scoring: Gold 88-100, Silver 81-87, Bronze 75-80.

I received a Silver (84)  for the Cityscape (my first Silver), Three Bronzes' Black and White (80), Landscape (78), Seascape (78) and a air swing (71) for the Pano category.

I believe I haven't scored a high enough average to win it, which is total score 391 / 5 = 78.2

I entered all black and white images as that's where I feel i'm at with my journey as a photographer and wanted to present them as a package (even though i'm not being judged on that) and wanted to show consistency.

This group is not a black & white group, It's just what I like and staying true to that. I could of entered coloured images like last year but maybe a little of me would of been doing it for the judges.

Thank you to the committee and judges for their time and efforts for the group and awards to happen.

I look forward to the Award night on November 1st to meet & greet the other photographers in the group and to see the winning images. Can't wait!

Jason.

International Photo Awards 2014

IPA 2014..

I found out today that I received an Honorable Mention for my image called "Dream Time" in the category Fine Art : Landscape NON-PRO. See here

I must say that i'm very humble and honored to receive this kudos. To be among some of my fellow peers that I look up to and follow gives me a surreal and great feeling at the same time.

I'd like to thank the IPA jury for the consideration and congratulations to all the other photographers who got a mention.

The category winners are to be announced on 30 Sept 2014 and Photographer of the Year will be 2nd Nov 2014.
